La Fonteta raises the curtain of the EuroCup vs. LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne

01/10/2018

Valencia Basket will begin its journey in the 7DAYS EuroCup receiving LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in the Fonteta (Tuesday 2, 20:45 hours, Fonteta, Teledeporte) in a game that will mean the starting signal for the 12th consecutive season playing in continental competitions. For its premiere in official home game, the taronja team will face a rival that has been measured three times in European competition and which has won on all three occasions. The most recent precedent, in the 2013-14 season (with triumph taronja by 97-70). For this game, coach Jaume Ponsarnau will have four absences due to injury: Mike Tobey (sprain of the joint with posterior sub-dislocation of the right shoulder) , Antoine Diot (grade 1 fibrillar fracture in the hamstrings of the left leg), Fernando San Emeterio (discomfort in the left knee) and Rafa Martínez (who continues with his rehabilitation process after having undergone knee surgery in the summer). Jaume Ponsarnau will debut in official game at home as taronja coach, in the same way that Louis Labeyrie and Matt Thomas will play their first minutes in official competition in front of their new audience.

LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne arrives at the Fonteta for his debut in the current European season with the good feelings with which he has started his domestic championship. He has won his first three games and is co-leader in France led by Miro Bilan and David Lighty who scored 28 points to add victory on the court of Gravelines-Dunkerque. This team has never been able to take the triumph of the Fonteta, but has recently the example of the last French team that went through the taronja fief, Limoges CSP, who knew how to get the victory of Valencia. With the confirmed absence of Alpha Kaba and with Livio Jean-Charles absent from the last matches of the French team, the team led by Zvevdan Mitrovic will hold a training session this afternoon at La Fonteta.

Jaume Ponsarnau analyzes the game

The coach of Valencia Basket said in the preview of the game that "we play against another team that a very physical proposal, very intense and very aggressive. And on top of it with a lot of quality. Our proposal has to be at that level, it can not be that another team wins us in this proposal. Injuries happen, and they are obviously the explanation of many things, but it does not have to be more than this. Those of us who have to face it with a 100% mentality, maximum effort and never with excuses"
