Overcoming obstacles with Oumou - One Team VIII, Semana VIII

28/01/2020

The eighth training day of the eighth RSC One Team project of Euroleague with Valencia Basket served to work what the effort means among the members of the Maria Auxiliadora Foundation, with games and activities to make them offer the maximum of their capabilities.

This session served to learn about Oumou's personal history. She overcomes her problems with language and adaptation after arriving from Mali with the Laura Vicuña Center, and now also with One Team. “My name is Oumou, I'm 13 years old. I came from Mali, and I have been in Spain for two years. At the beginning I didn't know anyone or the language” says the protagonist. Carlos is taking care of her in the center. "She is an example of courage, effort, overcoming, she arrived a couple of years ago, she was shy but she has been improving and making many friends" he says.

One Team is a motivation for her and one more way to integrate. “She has never missed the sessions. She is always delighted, she is punctual, always on time and we never need to call her. When she comes she is so happy that she transmits it to her teammates” says Carlos. And they are more and more friends. "I get along very well with them. We have fun and laugh a lot” says Oumou. Carlos points out that it has helped her making many friends. “In addition to what she learns in One Team, she improves interpersonal relationships, they go out, enjoy and for her it is leisure and healthy time” he explains. “My teammates are nice and I have many friends that I love. Then we go out, we go to the park, laugh and listen to music” she says. Oumou is one more. She speaks better Spanish each day and is more integrated.

Maria Auxiliadora Foundation

Promoted by the daughters of María Auxiliadora (Salesianas), its fundamental mission is to respond to the socio-educational needs of children, teenagers, youth and women at risk and/or social exclusion. The Foundation tries to respond, through all the projects and services it carries out, to the needs of the groups in a situation of exclusion and to help transform our society into a more fair and more humane world. The goal is that all the people who participate in the project feel welcomed, valued and protagonists of their own growth process. Through this, social projects for inclusion, promotion and social and labor insertion are promoted.

Ten sessions, one goal

This project "One Team VIII" has planned ten training sessions that will take place on Fridays from November 8 in the afternoon until January. With them, the participants live positive experiences and develop healthy habits of self-improvement that can be transferred to the school or work environment. All this through learning the basics of a collective sport such as basketball, which will help participants to know the values of sacrifice and responsibility that derive from organized exercise, use sport as a formula for personal development and make them take the steps towards that they can find in the practice of any sport activity a way to grow as people.
