Valencia Basket's men's coaching staff set for the 2024-25 season

03/07/2024

Valencia Basket has already defined the coaching staff of its men's professional team for the 2024-25 season. The return of Pedro Martínez to the first seat on the Taronja bench seven years after the Liga Endesa title is the main, but not the only, novelty in the coaching staff. After the departure of Fernando San Emeterio, the Hungarian Adrian Kovacs will extend the list of assistant coaches, who will work with the head coach as will Xavi Albert (who returns to the assistant role after finishing as first coach last season) and Juan Maroto . The assistant technicians will in turn have the support of Vicent Revert, also a coach from l'Alqueria, who already served in these roles in the last months of last season.

Kovacs arrives at Valencia Basket
Adrian Kovacs is a Hungarian coach born in 1993 who comes from Paris Basketball, where last season he was assistant coach of the team that won the BKT EuroCup and was runner-up in the French league. In the 2022-23 season, also as assistant to coach Iisalo, he was champion of the Basketball Champions League and finalist in the Bundesliga.  Kovacs arrived in our country at the age of fifteen in an exchange program and stayed to combine the end of his playing days with his beginnings as a youth coach in Alicante. In 2017 he returned to his native country as an assistant at DEAC Kosarlabda in the Hungarian first division and in 2019, at the age of 26, he already took the reins as head coach and ranked it in fourth position. In 2021 he arrives in Bonn to be an assistant and after two courses in Germany and another in France full of successes, he lands at Fonteta.

The rest of the coaching staff defined
Pau Alcácer remains the team's physical trainer, while Joan Martínez and Agus Girbés will be in charge of physiotherapy. Alfonso Castilla will extend his extensive career as a delegate for one more year and Sergio Calvache repeats as team doctor. Paco Plaza repeats as a prop man for another year and Rafa Jiménez continues as a data analyst.

Valencia Basket enhances its Performance Department
The staff of the Taronja first team will also once again have the permanent help of the Performance Department, which encompasses the areas of physical preparation, physiotherapy, nutrition, psychology and medicine with Pedro Cotolí leading this area.

Different specialists will support the professional teams. Julio Galcerán repeats as head of readaptation, while Rubén Portes will once again be the specialist in strength work and Álvaro Domínguez will continue as nutritionist.

Regarding medicine, there will be Dr. Vicente Sebastià, a rehabilitator as well as a doctor for the women's team, and the support of Vicente Carratalà, head of traumatology at Quirónsalud, who will also have his professional team. The Club is committed to change in this section in order to increase benefits and take even greater care of the performance of its athletes.

Bet on professionalization
The creation of the important structure that the Performance Department represented is another reflection of how Valencia Basket is taking steps towards the professionalization and modernization of its sports area. The commitment to have a data analyst on the staff or the incorporation of Milan Bertelli as a scout attached to the sports management are two more examples of how the Club tries to grow and improve, creating a team of professionals up to the challenge they face. their first teams and training categories.
