NBA, Valencia City Councial and Valencia Basket to host first JR. NBA European Finals

The National Basketball Association (NBA), Valencia City Council and Valencia Basket, today announced the first-ever Jr. NBA European Finals, a week-long elite youth tournament featuring 12 teams from six European countries will be held at the l'Alqueria del Basket training facility in Valencia, Spain from Wednesday, June 21 – Sunday, June 25.

The announcement was made today at a launch event in Valencia by NBA Associate Vice President of Basketball Operations, Europe and Middle East, Neal Meyer and representatives of Valencia Basket and the Municipality of Valencia, who were joined by NBA European Ambassadors LaMarcus Aldrigde, a seven-time NBA-All Star, and three-time WNBA champion Amaya Valdemoro.  Also in attendance was six-year NBA veteran and Eurobasket gold medalist Juancho Hernangomez.  The event was complemented by The Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy on display, a hospital visit, multiple school clinics to engage local children and Jr. NBA clinics featuring the former players. 

 

The Jr. NBA European Finals will feature 180 elite boys and girls under age 15 from six countries across Europe where Jr. NBA programs currently operate, including France, Italy, Israel, Spain, Turkey and the UK, and will center around 24 competitive five-on-five games throughout the week to determine one overall boys and girls winner.  The event, hosted at Valencia Basket’s training facility which boasts nine indoor basketball courts, will also feature Life Skills sessions, Skill Challenges and a three-point contest, along with several clinics, an additional hospital visit and a court refurbishment throughout the week.

 

The tournament will be conducted by NBA EME Basketball Operations staff and 36 coaches and feature NBA European Ambassadors to be announced at a later date.
