An special motivation - One Team VII, Week IX

17/01/2019

The ninth training session of the seventh One Team project with Valencia Basket worked with the concepts of equality and inequality through basketball, with children's activities as protagonists.

At the information level, the session served to learn about the influence that the One Team program is having on children together with Mamás en Acción, in the voice of its educators. "It's a great opportunity for all of them. The girl who comes from my center expresses all her feelings through basketball. At first, she did not want to come here because she was new, and now she looks forward to every Tuesday of the week" said Mila Lucas, educator at Hogar Francisco de Asís. " Little by little her attitude was improving, she was coming back happier to the center. She expends all her week waiting for Tuesday,  and now that the Project is ending, she’s very sad" said Jesus Toboso, educator of the Cabanyal Children's Center.

Everyone agrees that the impact is tremendously positive. "S Sport is good for everybody, but specially to kids in this situation. It gives them a context with rules that activate them and help them to deal with frustation. Furthermore, it increases their support network" describes Sara Albiach, psychologist at the Luis Amigó Child Center. "They have enjoyed the activity a lot. They have come very excited, and I think is due to the coaches and to the way they have treated values and have kept the kids motivated" explains José Antonio Martín, educator at Hogar Champagnat.

The context helps them overcome adversity. "The fact that this kids leave the streets and find people who cares about them and give them this opportunity is a bless" says Berta Robleda, Director of CAM Projecte Obert de Paterna. "All they are told is to increase their self-esteem, their broad-mindedness, in terms of thinking they can do things they never believed" she said. "They have enjoyed the company, they are learning about effort, cooperation, teamwork and It is a lovely experience for them" says José María Valero, President of the La Salle Acoge Foundation. “And suddenly, they see themselves on a large court, in a large pavilion and are surrounded by basketball figures that greet them as equals, and that makes them grow a lot, it is very important for them" UUhe concludes.

Ten sessions, a goal
