Recovering Marcos' passion - One Team VIII, Week VI

13/01/2020

The sixth training day of the eighth Euroleague RSC One Team project with Valencia Basket served to work on the concepts of equality and inequality among the members of the Maria Auxiliadora Foundation, with games and activities to "educate" the members of the activity in this kind of situations.

A session that also served to know the details of the personal history of Marcos, a boy who was forced to leave his favorite sport, and who now takes it back with more passion than ever thanks to One Team and the Laura Vicuña Center. “I started playing in my town, in Picassent, being U12. I had to unsubscribe, but years went by and I saw that I liked it and came back as U16. But because of family reasons I went to live in Torrente and I couldn’t continue because it was far and it was very expensive” he said.

Marcos enjoys each practice. For him One Team is a unique opportunity, and he tries to take advantage of every second. “I like basketball since I was child, it's my favorite sport. When they told me that we had the chance to come, I liked it a lot, and whenever I come I try to enjoy it as much as possible, because I know it is a thing that only happens once in a lifetime” he explained. Our protagonist will never forget the moment in which he was informed that he was part of the activity. “It made me very happy, I felt fortunate to be able to come” he explained.

One Team is being very important to him. Marcos has perfectly understood the project. “In addition to basketball, we learn how to communicate with others, dialogue and be better people. It's like a way to learn while you play, improve, improve yourself, not only in basketball, but in other aspects of life” he concluded.

Maria Auxiliadora Foundation

Promoted by the daughters of María Auxiliadora (Salesianas), its fundamental mission is to respond to the socio-educational needs of children, teenagers, youth and women at risk and/or social exclusion. The Foundation tries to respond, through all the projects and services it carries out, to the needs of the groups in a situation of exclusion and to help transform our society into a more fair and more humane world. The goal is that all the people who participate in the project feel welcomed, valued and protagonists of their own growth process. Through this, social projects for inclusion, promotion and social and labor insertion are promoted.

Ten sessions, one goal

This project "One Team VIII" has planned ten training sessions that will take place on Fridays from November 8 in the afternoon until January. With them, the participants live positive experiences and develop healthy habits of self-improvement that can be transferred to the school or work environment. All this through learning the basics of a collective sport such as basketball, which will help participants to know the values of sacrifice and responsibility that derive from organized exercise, use sport as a formula for personal development and make them take the steps towards that they can find in the practice of any sport activity a way to grow as people.
