Surne Bilbao Basket- Valencia Basket pre-game quotes: Josep Puerto

25/10/2024

Valencia Basket men's team returned to training this morning to prepare for their second outing of the week, which will take them to visit the Surne Bilbao Basket court on Sunday, the 27th, at 5:00 PM. Captain Josep Puerto acknowledges that “playing in Bilbao is always a very tough challenge. Especially for us, the last few years haven’t gone well at all. It’s going to be a good test for us.”

The recent streak of results is negative, with three losses for Valencia Basket in their last three visits to Miribilla and four defeats out of the previous five clashes. To change this dynamic, the taronja forward emphasizes the importance of finding their best version: “Every game is complicated, especially in the ACB when you play away. There are no easy games. In the end, we have to focus on executing our game, on what we’ve been training for. We need to concentrate more on ourselves than on the opponent, and try to do the basics as well as possible.”

The taronja team arrives at this fifth round as the clear leader in offensive rebounds. This dominance will be tested against the tall players of the Bilbao team. The captain stresses that this hunger for second chances “is part of our identity, the rebound. It’s one of our strengths, and it’s something we work on in training. Ultimately, it’s a fundamental aspect for us, and against Bilbao or any team, it’s equally important. The results reflect that.”

After nine official matches, Josep gives an initial assessment of the start of the season and highlights that “the team is comfortable with this style, because it’s a very dynamic and collective game where everyone has their opportunities. I think that is already visible on the court, but we need to keep working.”
