2021-22

11/07/2023

The 2021-22 season began with a clear commitment to the continuity of the squad, in which Rubén Burgos would continue to lead the team as a coach. In his coaching staff, two new faces would arrive, with Roberto Hernández and Marta Sorlí as assistants.

As for the squad, few changes, with the incorporation of Ángela Salvadores abroad due to the losses of María Pina and Laura Juskaite, leaving more room for the players from L'Alqueria to begin to claim a greater role. The skeleton of the team, formed by Cristina Ouviña and Leticia Romero at the point guard, would be joined during the year by the presence of Claudia Contell. Abroad, Queralt Casas and Bec Allen would repeat, accompanied by Lorena Segura. The quartet formed by Raquel Carrera, Celeste Trahan-Davis, Laura Gil and Marie Gülich would repeat inside.

The joys began early, with the first national title in our history, the LF Endesa Super Cup, won in the Canarian Islands with a victory against Perfumerías Avenida in the grand final. A few days later, the demands of the calendar would take its toll when they fell in the previous phase of the Euroleague Women in the Italian town of Schio, so the dream of playing in the highest European division would have to wait, luckily, just one more year. Valencia Basket had to defend the title again in the Eurocup.

While the competitions of the Endesa Women's League and the Eurocup progressed, the next big event arrived, the Copa de la Reina, which that year would be played again in our city. In this edition, the taronja would reach the semifinals, where they would lose to Spar Girona, a match decided in the final moments. A few dates later, the taronja would also conclude their European season, losing to Astour Ndour's Reyer Venezia in a close quarterfinal, ending their European tour.

The team recovered in time to reach the end of the Endesa Women's League strongly, beating Movistar Estudiantes in the quarterfinals and the executioner of the Queen's Cup, Spar Girona, in the semifinals. In the final, however, the taronja would lose again in two games against Perfumerías Avenida, after a last game at La Fonteta that once again presented a spectacular atmosphere. Of course, the runner-up brought a prize as a climax to the great season, the pass, now, to the EuroLeague Women directly.
