Valencia Basket seeks to recover its identity hosting Baskonia in La Fonteta

06/04/2024

Valencia Basket men's team repeats at Fonteta after the disastrous game against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, seeking to recover its identity and good feelings hosting Baskonia (Sunday 7, 5:00 p.m., Fonteta, Movistar Deportes 2) in a Endesa League round 28 game.

The game will mark the debut of a homegrown man like Xavi Albert as head coach of the Taronja team after the dismissal of Álex Mumbrú, which will make him the 25th coach in the history of our Club.

The Taronja team will need to take a step forward to regain the support of La Fonteta in an important duel in the race to enter the very expensive Endesa League Playoffs between two of the teams involved.

A local win would mean putting two games ahead of the Vitorian team, which in the case of reaching 9+ points would also give the Taronja team the tie-breaker.

And it would also break the bad streak against this rival in Valencia, since the Baskonista team has taken the win in its last four visits to Fonteta in national competition and has tilted the history of clashes in Taronja fiefdom in its favor (21-23). Of course, the solid Taronja win in the Euroleague in Vitoria a little over two months ago broke the general bad streak that Valencia Basket had against this rival.

The latest Taronja signing, center Alpha Kaba, has been registered in the Endesa League and is at the coach's disposal to be able to make his debut in this game in which the long-term injured Boubacar Touré and the point guard Kevin Pangos are sidelined.

With 14 players available, the Taronja coach will have to leave out two of his players, one of them necessarily an American player.

Valencia Basket begins this round in seventh position in the Endesa League with a balance of 16-11.
