The Valencia Basket model lands in Greece and Cyprus


Since it was born in 1986, Valencia Basket has grown and consolidated to become one of the most important clubs in Europe. A reference in betting on genderless basketball with professional men's and women's teams at the same level and with equal treatment, and also an example of training in values, under the Culture of Endeavour. This being worked on all its youth teams in a facility, L'Alqueria del Basket, which is also the largest on the continent dedicated to basketball and a boosting center for this sport that never stops to generate activity.


This entire ecosystem has already aroused the interest of different countries that have been learning about the model and trying to bring it into their daily practices. Now it’s going one step further. Valencia Basket lands in Greece and Cyprus, countries where there will be an Academy that will work in its footsteps with young athletes who will be introduced to the Culture of Endeavour.


The Club has reached an agreement to develop a program that will be in charge of this network of affiliated academies with different goals:


  • Expand successful collaborations abroad, as well as developing closer relationships between the three countries.
  • Create a network of academies in Greece and Cyprus, to materialize an innovative program under the guidance of Valencia Basket Club.
  • Transfer proficiency and experience abroad.
  • Have young athletes participating in one-of-a-kind events, camps, tournaments, but also development programs for talented players.
  • Develope connections with regional & local sports communities.


The ambassador of this program in Greece and Cyprus is the former international basketball player of PAOK, Olympiacos, Valladolid, Aris, AEK and others, and basketball coach, Panagiotis Vasilopoulos. One of the top European basketball players with extensive experience and knowledge of the sport.


The program will start in April of 2024 with the aim of completing integration and collaboration of six academies within 2024 and doubling the academies in 2025. The first five affiliated academies are: KERAVNOS STROVOLOU – PALLINI BC – SPARTAKOS LARISSA – SC IAX NAFPLIO – SIRIS ACADEMY SERRES.


The program in the next months will include four Skills Camps in Greece and one in Cyprus, with the presence of a coordinator and coaches from Valencia BC. Starting on the 26th of April and ending on the 12th of May 2024, the Skills Camps will be conducted in Pallini, Larissa, Nafplio, Serres and Strovolos in Nicosia.

An International Basketball Tournament in Central Greece is also scheduled to take place on June 18-19-20 in the Municipality of Lokron, with the participation of the children's team of the Valencia Basket Academy and the athletes from the selected academies that will participate in the program. Co-organizers of the International Tournament will be, the Municipality of Lokron and the Region of Central Greece.


The organization of an Elite Program, a program for the development of youth talented players, has also been set as a main priority.


In the next months and through the Skills Camps, young basketball palyers, born in the year 2008, will be selected to participate in a weeklong «Training Stage» in the city of Valencia in the end of August. The talented basketball players will be trained by the Valencia Basket Club / L'Alqueria del Basket coaches. The team will play friendly matches in Valencia and will also follow the training program of the U16 team of Valencia BC.
