Basketball and studies with Gabi - One Team VIII, Week III

25/11/2019

The third training day of the eighth Euroleague RSC One Team project with Valencia Basket served to learn more about teamwork, with the members of the Maria Auxiliadora Foundation demonstrating their progress in collaborating with their partners and completing different exercises in L'Alqueria del Basket.

This session also served to learn about Gabi's personal history. With problems to carry out his studies, he began to attend the Laura Vicuña Center, and with One Team, he has learned that the effort is the answer both at the academic level and at the sports level. "I am not a very good student, in my house my mother worked and I hadn’t support, so I started to go to the center" said the protagonist.

But step by step, he has managed to change the situation. "Now I am starting to focus in my studies, I pass the exams, before I couldn’t, and don’t want this happening again" he explained. And he has achieved it through the effort, which with One Team is learning to value even more. “Basketball and studies are similar. Without effort it is impossible to get what you want. I would tell everyone that with a little effort you can get a lot of things” he advised.

With all this, Gabi is enjoying like never before. "I really want the One Team day to come, I'm always thinking about it" he says, because beyond learning, if there is something that our protagonist achieves is "having fun".

Maria Auxiliadora Foundation

Promoted by the daughters of María Auxiliadora (Salesianas), its fundamental mission is to respond to the socio-educational needs of children, teenagers, youth and women at risk and/or social exclusion. The Foundation tries to respond, through all the projects and services it carries out, to the needs of the groups in a situation of exclusion and to help transform our society into a more fair and more humane world. The goal is that all the people who participate in the project feel welcomed, valued and protagonists of their own growth process. Through this, social projects for inclusion, promotion and social and labor insertion are promoted.

Ten sessions, one goal

This project "One Team VIII" has planned ten training sessions that will take place on Fridays from November 8 in the afternoon until January. With them, the participants live positive experiences and develop healthy habits of self-improvement that can be transferred to the school or work environment. All this through learning the basics of a collective sport such as basketball, which will help participants to know the values of sacrifice and responsibility that derive from organized exercise, use sport as a formula for personal development and make them take the steps towards that they can find in the practice of any sport activity a way to grow as people.
