Communicate through basketball - One Team VIII, Week IV

02/12/2019

The fourth training day of the eighth RSC One Team project of Euroleague with Valencia Basket served to work verbal communication between the members of the Maria Auxiliadora Foundation, carrying out different activities and games in L’Alqueria del Basket.

This session also served to learn about Clara's personal story. Arriving from Brazil just a few months ago, she has encountered difficulties in communicating and making friends, which made her to attend the Laura Vicuña Center. “I came from Brazil 7 months ago and I didn't know the language, only a little. At home I am the only one who speaks. At first it was hard because I hadn’t friends and didn’t speak just because I was ashamed” said the protagonist.

Step by step, Clara has been making progress with the help of the center, and now also of One Team. “Now I know how to speak better. I like to play because I remember my friends from Brazil and because I stay with my friends here and I think I play well” she explained.

For Clara, sport has been a way to improve her communication. "I have a better relationship with some people here because of basketball, because I stay with them all afternoon, and now I talk better with them" she said. “With One Team you learn to play with people, to share things and to live together with more people” she concluded.

Maria Auxiliadora Foundation

Promoted by the daughters of María Auxiliadora (Salesianas), its fundamental mission is to respond to the socio-educational needs of children, teenagers, youth and women at risk and/or social exclusion. The Foundation tries to respond, through all the projects and services it carries out, to the needs of the groups in a situation of exclusion and to help transform our society into a more fair and more humane world. The goal is that all the people who participate in the project feel welcomed, valued and protagonists of their own growth process. Through this, social projects for inclusion, promotion and social and labor insertion are promoted.

Ten sessions, one goal

This project "One Team VIII" has planned ten training sessions that will take place on Fridays from November 8 in the afternoon until January. With them, the participants live positive experiences and develop healthy habits of self-improvement that can be transferred to the school or work environment. All this through learning the basics of a collective sport such as basketball, which will help participants to know the values of sacrifice and responsibility that derive from organized exercise, use sport as a formula for personal development and make them take the steps towards that they can find in the practice of any sport activity a way to grow as people.
