9th Regular League

The promotion of the team to A1 implies a new remodeling, the club's structures grow and the ambition grows, as it was necessary to be prepared to play in the highest division of Spanish basketball. The A1 prompted a greater investment in reinforcing the squad, coached for the second year by the Basque coach José Antonio Figueroa.

As for the structure of the roster, there was an important change in the choice of Americans, betting on Larry Micheaux, one of the most outstanding center in the ACB, coming from Taugrés and arriving with the fame of dominant center. Micheaux arrived in place of Johnny Rogers, who would return to Valencia shortly after to replace Brad Branson for four games, similar to Howard Wood, who would take Branson's place for 2 games. From very early on, Micheaux's contribution was noticed, and he became, in the three seasons he was in Valencia, one of the most important players in the history of Valencia Basket. Even today, his statistics are still a reference, and three seasons were enough for him to be the third best rebounder in the club's history with 1,039 catches.

Micheaux was part of the inside game along with Brad Branson, in the third season in the club, a pair of guarantees for this first year at the highest level. Juan Carlos Barros arrived from Collado Villalba, a player who would help from the bench in the small forward and power forward positions and who would make his mark in the 5 years of his stay in Valencia. Carlos Dicenta arrived from the American university league, a point guard who would come to help in the direction of the undisputed Salva Díez, and who would fill the gap left by Roberto Íñiguez.

In the outside positions, the role of starter remained in the hands of José Luis Indio Díaz and Sergio Coterón, very important in the promotion. To help in these tasks returns Joan Morales, who will give rest to both, in addition to the contributions of Barros. On the inside, the Branson-Micheaux duo is joined by Javier González, a center from Albacete who arrives to give minutes of rest to the North Americans.

In the pavilion, the influx of spectators continued to grow, and the possibility of seeing Pamesa Valencia with the most famous and powerful teams in the league, made the social mass grow little by little. Taugrés, Montigalá Joventut, CAI Zaragoza, FCBarcelona, Real Madrid Otaysa were names of clubs that belonged to another league... until that moment. There were victories of great merit, such as the 80-62 win against the Barça of Galilea, Montero, Trumbo, Piculín Ortiz or Audie Norris and coached by Boza Maljkovic, in a Fonteta with 7,000 people.

However, the team's progress was not as good as expected, and halfway through the season José Antonio Figueroa was dismissed. In his place, Fernando Jiménez, assistant coach, takes over the ship. The challenge of finishing in European positions will have to wait, and the team finishes in ninth position in the ACB.
