Copa del Rey

Semifinals

After the bad end of last year's season, a new stage begins in Pamesa Valencia. The responsibility on the bench this new year will fall on the Catalan coach Ricard Casas. Casas had just been recognized as one of the revelation coaches due to his work at the head of Ricoh Manresa.

The opening of the market towards the Balkan countries helps to sign in a wider scope, and helps to change the staff more easily. The reshuffle is such that only two players from the previous season will continue, shooting guard and captain Víctor Luengo and forward Óscar Yebra. For the point guard position, the bet is focused on a young Serbian talent, captain and leader of Partizan, Vule Avdalovic. The American Junior Harrington, an athletic point guard with experience in the NBA, including as a starting point guard, will accompany him in the leadership role. The first line of point guards will be completed by Borja Larragán, under contract for only the first 3 months.

For the shooting guard position, the bet is Derrick Dial, a Michigan native who arrives with the reputation of being a good scorer. However, this will be a position that will not come to fruition during the season. Dial is cut at the end of November and in his place Blake Stepp is hired, a skilled shooting guard and great shooter who will have good games until the Copa del Rey. Completing the outside line, in addition to Yebra, is the signing of Mindaugas Timinskas, an experienced Lithuanian small forward with experience in the ACB League.

Albert Miralles arrives from Italy, where he had managed to develop the potential that had classified him as a promising player in the Joventut youth team. Rubén Garcés arrives from Estudiantes, where he had a good season, and also with the Spanish passport under his arm. For the power forward position, the Greek Dimos Dikoudis returns. Finally, in the open 4 position, also Greek Evangelos Sklavos arrives, an unknown player who will surprise for his good outside shooting. For this last position, the club tried Argentine Marcelo Nicola during the preseason, but he did not work out. Finally, Federico Kammerichs is transferred to the incipient Akasvayu Girona.

The first part of the season is good, reaching the Copa del Rey in Madrid as top seed with a 12-5 record and already with Stepp in the team, which places the team against Akasvayu Girona in the quarterfinals. The game is solved with a certain ease by 82-68, and the team prepares for the semifinals against the current champion, Unicaja. The game began evenly matched, but soon the slight superiority of the Valencian team began to show, and with a great defense, the team sentenced the game and won the passport to the final to the astonishment of the gym. In the final, a spectacular Pablo Prigioni achieved his record of assists, depriving the Valencians of glory. The Copa del Rey had narrowly escaped.

Stepp's knee injury will not allow him to play again with Pamesa Valencia. The lack of outside rotation will precipitate a new signing, with the arrival of Bulgarian player Todor Stoykov. Filling Stepp's extracommunity spot will be Anthony Goldwire. However, the bad dynamics of the second round precipitates the disaster, and Pamesa Valencia is out of the Play-Offs for the second consecutive year.
