The return to the Euroleague after the Eurocup conquest came with changes in the roster. The power forward Justin Doellman left the team for Barcelona, and Oliver Lafayette left for Olympiacos. Along with them, Juanjo Triguero, Larry Abia and Ksystof Lavrinovic left the team.
In their place, Guillem Vives joined the team at point guard, the Americans Dwight Buycks at point guard and Luke Harangody at power forward and Kresimir Loncar at center. In addition, Chechu Mulero took the reins of the sports management, with Carles Duran taking the position of assistant coach. Van Rossom, Martinez, Sato, Lucic, Aguilar, Dubljevic and Lishchuk remained from the block that won the Eurocup, with Perasovic on the bench.
However, the season did not start as desired. In addition to the defeat in the semifinals of the Endesa Supercup, the bad results in Euroleague brought the first changes. Dwight Buycks is replaced by Serbian Nemanja Nedovic. His arrival does not prevent them from running out of options to reach the Top16 of the Euroleague, falling back to the Eurocup. A hesitant start in the Last32 ended with the dismissal of Velimir Perasovic after a home loss to Romanian CSU Asesoft in January. Carles Duran will take the reins of the team until the end of the season.
With Duran as head coach, Valencia Basket falls in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey, held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
In the Eurocup, Valencia Basket got back on track, reaching the crossings as second in the group. With the home-court factor against them, Valencia Basket eliminated Bayern Munich in Svetislav Pesic's return to the Fonteta in the round of 16, but could not overcome Khimki in the quarterfinals, the eventual champion of the competition.
Little by little, Valencia Basket grows in the Liga Endesa, reaching the end of the regular phase in fifth position. Ahead, a 3-game PlayOff against Dominion Bilbao Basket with the home court factor against them. The result, three away wins. Valencia Basket struck first in Bilbao, Sito Alonso's team tied in La Fonteta and the Taronja won in the third game in Miribilla, in a playoff full of emotion.
The four-time champion Real Madrid awaited in the semifinals, in another series to remember. Valencia Basket won the second game in Madrid, recovering the home court advantage. In the third game, controversial due to the improper alignment of Marcus Slaughter, a basket by Harangody on the buzzer is annulled for off-time, and the white team takes the third game. In the fourth, the Whites dominated in the final stretch and sealed the pass to the final. La Fonteta, on its feet, bids farewell to a team that left everything on the court, a complicated year ended with a smile.
