The season started after a summer of important changes in historical figures of the squad. Bojan Dubljevic, after 11 seasons, and Sam Van Rossom, after 10, ended their historical trajectory in Valencia Basket, which would mean their future retirement.

The departures of Samy and Dubi would be joined by those of Jasiel Rivero, Klemen Prepelic, Jonah Radebaugh or Kyle Alexander, to which would be added one more departure, that of Chechu Mulero, who after 20 years at the club, 11 as assistant coach and 9 as sporting director, would leave the latter position to Luis Arbalejo.

The construction of this new squad, the second with Álex Mumbrú as head coach, brought several signings on the frontcourt, such as Brandon Davies, Damien Inglis, Nate Reuvers and Boubacar Touré, who would join Jaime Pradilla.

On the backcourt, the point guard duo of Chris Jones and Martin Hermannsson would have the added presence of junior Guillem Ferrando. Soon, Hermannsson's physical problems would lead to the arrival of Stefan Jovic.

On the wings, after the continuity of Jared Harper, Víctor Claver, Xabi López Arostegui and Josep Puerto, Valencia Basket would add two new pieces, the all-rounder Semi Ojeleye and the shooter Kassius Robertson.

After a great start both in Liga Endesa and Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, with vibrant victories against rivals such as Monaco, Fenerbahce or FC Barcelona, Valencia Basket reached 6-1 in domestic competition and 5-1 in Europe.

The streak, however, did not have much continuity, showing the difficulty of combining both competitions. At the end of the first round of the Endesa League, Valencia Basket would qualify as fifth for the Copa del Rey, while in Europe it would be close to the PlayOff positions.

Later in the season, two new arrivals, point guard Kevin Pangos and small forward Justin Anderson, were added to the roster. Junior Guillem Ferrando would leave for Estudiantes in search of more minutes, while Martin Hermannsson resigned and left for ALBA Berlin.

The Copa del Rey in Malaga saw a clash against Dreamland Gran Canaria in the quarterfinals, in which the Taronja were able to come back in the final stretch and qualify for the semifinals, a phase in which it was not possible to overcome a powerful Real Madrid.

Upon returning from the Cup, the results did not improve, losing positions in domestic competition and being left without PlayOff options in Europe, and forcing a change in the bench. On April 5, the club announced the dismissal of Álex Mumbrú, and Xavi Albert took over the team for the remainder of the season.

A good final stretch of the Endesa League allowed the team to climb up to fourth position, getting the home court factor against UCAM Murcia for the quarterfinals. In a vibrant 3-game series, the Murcians struck first at the Fonteta, leaving the taronja on the verge of the KO. Valencia Basket recovered by winning the second game in Murcia, leaving everything to be decided for a third game in Valencia that would mean the end of the men's season. UCAM Murcia would advance to the final of the Liga Endesa, completing its best season until then.
