Valencia Basket will retire Sam Van Rossom’s number 9 jersey and rename Court 5 of L’Alqueria del Basket in honor of the Belgian point guard in a double event taking place on Saturday, May 10, coinciding with the Round 31 game of the Liga Endesa against Dreamland Gran Canaria, which will be played that day at 8:45 PM (tickets available starting from 25 euros, or 21.25 euros for our “Amics Taronja” members).

Since arriving at Valencia Basket in the summer of 2013 until his departure in June 2023, Van Rossom was an essential part of the three titles the club won during his time in orange (the 2017 Liga Endesa and the 2014 and 2019 EuroCup titles). He ranks as the fourth player with the most official games played for Valencia Basket (447), is the club’s all-time leading assist provider, and is the only player to have been voted twice by the fans to win the Endeavour Trophy in the men’s category.

First Foreign Player to Have His Jersey Retired at Valencia Basket

After ten seasons defending Valencia Basket’s colors and retiring from professional basketball following a final stint with Filou Oostende last season, Van Rossom remains the second foreign player with the most seasons at the club and one of only four players to have reached 10+ seasons with our men's pro team.

These achievements have earned him the honor of becoming the first player not born in Spain to have his number retired by Valencia Basket and to have a court at L’Alqueria del Basket renamed after him. Van Rossom’s #9 jersey will rise to the rafters of La Fonteta, becoming the fourth retired number in the club’s history, alongside Víctor Luengo’s #15, Nacho Rodilla’s #11, and Rafa Martínez’s #17.
